Ali Ewoldt will star as bright-eyed dreamer Luisa in the long-running off-Broadway hit The Fantasticks beginning May 13. Ewoldt succeeds Addi McDaniel, who is currently starring in the South Coast Repertory production of The Fantasticks in Costa Mesa, CA. Directed by Tom Jones, featuring a book and lyrics by Jones and music by Harvey Schmidt, The Fantasticks is currently running at the Snapple Theater Center.
The Fantasticks tells the story of two neighboring fathers who build a wall between their houses to ensure their two children fall in love—knowing children always do what their parents forbid. After the young lovers discover the plot, each goes off alone to experience the world before returning to each other again. The Fantasticks features the memorable songs “Try to Remember,” “Much More,” “They Were You” and “Soon It’s Gonna Rain.” The Fantasticks celebrated its 53rd anniversary on May 3.
In addition to Ewoldt, The Fantasticks stars George Dvorsky as El Gallo, Jim Schubin as Matt, Dan Sharkey as Hucklebee, Joseph Dellger as Bellomy, MacIntyre Dixon as Henry, Michael Nostrand as Mortimer and Daniel Rowan as the Mute. The Fantasticks also features Tom Flagg, Rita Markova and William Thomas Evans.
Ewoldt made her Broadway debut in Les Miserables after appearing in the national tour. Her additional touring credits include West Side Story and The King and I.
